But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house. Mark 3:27
I read this last night and the Holy Spirit highlighted it. Was Jesus using this example to describe this situation with us? How do the enemies of God plunder my ‘house’? Is there a spiritual meaning to this statement from Jesus? How do the enemies of God ‘bind’ me?
It was pretty fast that I understood that the enemy’s tactic is always with lies. And their goal is to get us to agree with those lies. Lies about ourself, lies about our family members, lies about friends, lies about what is going on around us, lies about truth, lies about the situation we are in, lies about the things God has spoken to you. When we agree with ANY of those lies from the enemy we become ‘bound’ by them. We put the shackles on our life by our believing and agreement with those lies. We allow these lies to take up ‘residence’ in our minds and they begin to ‘spin’ in cycle keeping us bound up.
That’s why the Word is the sword that divides to the very core of us — which if we allow the Word will sever and break those shackles we have agreed to. The Word / Truth actually WILL set you FREE!
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32
And there it is again – abiding in Jesus, the Source of all life, love, and freedom. The Holy Spirit will shine His light on the lies you have wrongly agreed to and convict you to renounce them. Do you believe things that the Lord has not said? About yourself or your spouse? About your children? Or anyone else?
How do we proactively grow into spiritual maturity? By asking the Holy Spirit honestly to show us where He wants us to change and things He wants us to repent of, as much of His ministry early in our walk and throughout our lives is to convict us of sin. Are you brave enough to ask the Holy Spirit what lies you’ve generally accepted right away? Are you caught in cycles of terrible thinking? Cycles that the lies of the enemy have produced in your mind?
What does the Word say? What Rhema Word (personally spoke to you by the Holy Spirit / Jesus to your heart) has been put into your soul? Are you ‘abiding’ in that Word?
You actually are the ‘Strongman’, for God has given you a mighty gift called — free will. Now you get to choose which way you will go and what you will believe. The enemies of God want to plunder your ‘house’, will you let them? Will you agree for them to come into your home and bind you and steal that which God has given you?
Abide in Jesus. Stay in constant relationship with the Holy Spirit. Listen to Him.
