And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9
As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good. 2 Thessalonians 3:12-14
Consider Him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. Hebrews 12:3
And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by Him. Hebrews 12:5
Becoming weary is definitely human. Can we become weary in spirit, soul, and body? Yes… but consider Jesus and what He had to endure… for you. Disciplines builds endurance. (James 1:2) And don’t be like those who try to tell themselves they aren’t weary – but be honest with yourself and God. Look to Him for your strength. Agree with the Holy Spirit in those weary times as to what you should do. Rest is also a need that should be guided by Him. Do you ‘rest’ in Him when you need to? Does He restore you?
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29 (Jesus)
This Shadowland is filled with exhausting tests, trials, battles, and a long-standing spiritual war where anyone who has named Jesus as their King is under attack. We also have to deal with an earth that groans under the ‘curse’, and we have to work with it under toil. Becoming weary is part of being human.
Have you considered ever asking the Holy Spirit what discipline of rest you need to employ in your life? Are there regular periods you need to rest? And what exactly that should look like? What do you gravitate to when you are exhausted? What is your routine that you fall into? Is that what the Holy Spirit suggests you should do? Not resting correctly can harm you as well. Unfortunately, the religious types have made ‘rest’ exhausting as well. In fact, the religious types seem to have more rules about the ‘day of rest’ than the other six days. What is the Holy Spirit telling you to do for rest? Have you ever asked Him?
Consider the One who created you… don’t you think He knows what will restore you better than you know yourself?
*selah* = pause / rest
1 thought on “Being Weary and Resting”
Great food for thought
I’m currently exhausted and needing rest myself
My day of rest was anything but
There is a rest though that’s in Jesus and is better than a cruise or a day by the beach
I think it’s best experienced alone. Alone with Him
